Pendle Sculpture Trail

The Pendle Sculpture Trail was commissioned in remembrance of the 400th anniversary of Britain's largest witch trail, held in 1612. During the Pendle Witch Trial, 10 local women lost their lives.

Four artist were invited to create works of art along the trail located in Aitken Woods. Each artist has a very different ascetic which adds depth to the project.

I think these artists did a great job, combining natural elements that blend in with their surroundings with themes that tie into the history of the trial.

What a wonderful idea! This trail combines two things that I am personally passionate about, art and nature. In my opinion, far to few people today take the time to appreciate either. The added element of the history lesson is a great bonus.

So why don't we have more of these trails? They seem like a win all around. The artist that participate get exposure and there could be a boost to the local economy from the tourist attraction point of view.  I could also see this artist trails being used to create awareness of local issues that could result in positive change and possibly funding. Sounds like a fantastic idea to me.
